Business expertise and a commitment to diversity

A word from Laetitia Sauvage (According to interview in La Voix du Nord - March 2024)

"I spent 15 years in the tech world, my last positions were Director of Operations and then Director of Human Resources in a 100-strong start-up.
I had to recruit for all the company's functions, and I made two observations:

  • First of all, traditional recruitment agencies were more interested in sales than in understanding our business and organizational challenges.
What's more, they didn't have access to people who were actively looking for work and wanted to remain incognito.
  • Then I became frustrated at not being able to play the counterweight role I'd imagined. I realized that the dice were loaded for management positions.
    I heard things like:
    - "for that CTO job, you absolutely need a man to manage the devs"!
    - "for that job, I'll call a friend, I know her husband's on the market...".

There are informal channels, a kind of black market in recruitment, which poses problems of diversity within the governing bodies.

So I trained myself in recruitment and how to minimize bias. I met a lot of people, built up a pool of candidates and set up About ü in June 2022.

The companies that call on About ü put our efficiency first!
The question of diversity isn't central to the brief at the outset.
But I tell myself that thanks to About ü, these companies are moving towards diversity without even realizing it. I'm also thinking of the former candidates who will be able to move the lines once they're inside the company - I'm optimistic!"
